National Dance Day was created by Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer and judge for the So You Think You Can Dance television series to promote dance education and physical fitness across the U.S. with the ultimate goal of getting dance recognized as a sport.
Started in 2010 National Dance Day has been an annual event and "grassroots initiative to encourage the nation, young and old, to get up and move!"
This year, National Dance Day is Saturday July 28, and Ave Maria Dance Academy is celebrating by offering FREE dance classes all day starting at 9:30am and culminating with a Dance Party for dance enthusiasts ages 6 - 12 from 6:00 - 7:00pm and a 2nd Dance Party for dance enthusiasts ages 13+ beginning at 7:00pm and ending when the last person leaves the dance floor!
At 4:30pm our instructors will teach the choreography to the 2 official National Dance Day routines;
If you plan on attending the 4:30pm Master Classes and you have some time on your hands – use the above links to start to learn the choreography on your own (the ends of both videos have the entire routines danced to music.)
Bring all of your friends out for a ‘dancetastic’ day beginning at 9:30am- on Saturday July 28, at the dance studio, see the full schedule below:
